Faces, 2023

Faces is a series of black-and-white self-portraits, in which my aim was to create diptychs combining the human face with still life – in the form of fruits and vegetables. I was interested in how organic forms, stripped of colour, gain new depth and meaning.

Black and white removed the natural appeal of the fruits and vegetables, leaving only form, texture, and light and shadow. This gave them a symbolic dimension – turning them into metaphors for emotions and psychological states.

By placing my portrait next to these elements of nature, I tried to capture the relationship between the body and its surroundings, between the physical and what is hidden within. The project became a form of self-analysis and poetic experimentation – an attempt to tell a story about myself without words.
